Rv insurance for Non US Citizen

Recommended Posts

Hi Bruce

this insurance issue " on line" is still doing my head in . Got to the end of it and only then do they bring up all the details of the policy and yes they have put us down as full timers which is not really a problem because of the money for the premium but it does state that you have to live in the motor home for a minimum of 6mths of the year and we will probably only be averaging 4-5mths

If I try and go back and put just for pleasure use now it might just reject me as they have tracked everything I have entered so far but if I continue I have to sign to say that that is correct. The next problem is It will also only let me pay by a yearly installment if I want to pay by credit card other than that I need a US Bank account Paying yearly creates it's own problems as they have cancellation fees on it for cancelling the policy. So now I really dont know what to do now . Do I just plough ahead and just try and complete the transaction on the hope that I can change it later or do I risk it and go back and try and change it with the possiblilty that they might not accept my address. Or do I go back to finding an agent that can get me through all this

your thoughts appreciated

One other question I have is don I need to get insurance coverage ofr the uninsured /underinsured bith bodily injury and property damage

HI Bruce

while I think of it where do you store your RV in Texas when you go home and what is the cost. We will be storing our Rv in that state this year as we are attending a wedding in Houston in our last few weeks before we leave and I have been trying to get info on the best place to store it

As to the insurance. I have just gone ahead and paid it and will see how I go about altering it later. Sometimes you just have to take a flying leap of faith. They have just got to send me out the forms by Mail and we have to sign and return them and we have plenty of time to do that before we go

Cheers

Storage can be an issue. We no longer have an RV in the USA. We own a pickup and now use hotels. (Long story). We always fly in and out of Dallas. (QANTAS has a non stop flight from Sydney to Dallas). I would suggest Googling RV storage in that area if you want to take advantage of the Dallas flights.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all the information you provide!

I am a NY resident with only international license. I am planning on buying tomorrow a 85 Chevy Honey and wanted to do insurance for it.

Here are the problems I've encountered and why I wasn't able to get a quote from thuminsurance (Jim Schecter from Recreation insurance specialist suggested because I live in new York).

1. Because the year model, they wanted me to have another vehicle under my name (I don't and that's why they refused to give me a quote).

2. I want to use it for over 6 month of travel.

I really need your help as I'm leaving my apartment in New York tomorrow and plan on visiting all 50 states (hopefully with an RV).

Thank you all so much!

Lior

Welcome to the Escapee forums! Since you reside in NY, once you register your vehicle you will be required to get a NY driving license.  The following quote comes from the NY Department of Motor Vehicles website.

Quote

You must exchange your-out-state driver license (from another U.S. state or territory, federal district or Canadian province) within 30 days of becoming a resident of New York

There used to be a hidden GOTCHA in the Progressive small print. Your RV can not be the ONLY registered and insured vehicle. You must have a second vehicle, a 50 cc twist and go scoot will do as long as you have it registered in your name and insured in your name.

You need to check and see if it is still there. Progressive were happy to take our money and only queried us after a year when we went to renew. I was OK as I had bought a M/C and a carrier which were insured through Progressive.
