RV_
Run Malwarebytes second as a full scan but remember to update first. First run Norton Power Eraser from here: https://security.symantec.com/nbrt/npe.aspx You need to be connected to Internet, it will check for updates and immediately ask if it's OK to restart say yes and it checks your boot for bugs then comes back and scans the drive. If your infection will not allow you to download it, download it to a clean USB thumb drive on a clean computer. You can usually run it from Windows file explorer. Max Death
X2 malwarebytes. Have used it for years on numerous computers. Have found it extremely helpful on not just adware but other malicious software. Hard to believe but seems alto of young males pickup all kinds of things while surfing internet porn. RV_
OK guys, Go here to bleeping Computer. It is the top anti malware website in the world. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/ At the top of the page you'll see where they have virus removal guides, downloads, tutorials. Read them and do them exactly as they will show you the how too. Once you have cleaned it successfully you should be more informed on how to stay clean. When you say still got it, did you run a fresh copy of Norton Power Eraser from a USB drive or just Malwarebytes? There is a stealth mode of Malwarebytes (MB) called chameleon that fools the malware that disables MB. Try combofix I linked to above. If you do better with videos go here. Remember, you can't download the programs as I said earlier on the infected computer. As you are seeing it defeated it. Throwing money at it won't work unless you do exactly what the antimalware programs and bleeping computer tells you to. Please use combofix, and Norton, both downloaded from a clean uninfected computer to a thumb drive and run them from there. Tell us what didn't work pr we don't know what you've tried. Did you use MB and Norton? Did you download to a USB drive on another computer and run them from it? You have to tell us the details to troubleshoot online RV/Derekhttp://www.rvroadie.com Email on the bottom of my website page.Retired AF 1971-1998 When you see a worthy man, endeavor to emulate him. RV_
OK try Norton first as it is the fastest of the best cleaners. Download Norton, Malwarebytes, and Combofix to the known clean thumb drive. If it has been on the computer since it was infected you will be infecting the wife's computer. However, those programs are small so a 1GB drive would hold all three and you can buy a 2 or 4 GB USB drive for under five bucks today. The, with the clean USB drive, download them all on her computer at once so you don't have to go back. If Norton Power eraser, Malwarebytes, and combofix can't clean it, it is because you didn't follow directions. Then once you have plugged the USB drive with the malware scanners on it into the infected computer - DO NOT GO BACK TO HER CONMPUTER WITH IT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE COMPUTER DISINFECTED, AND THEN SCANNED THE THUMBDRIVE AND KNOW IT IS CLEAN BEFORE PLUGGING IT INTO ANOTHER CLEAN COMPUTER. This takes a lot longer than just running a scanner. But saves your data and programs unlike a factory restore. Remember to tell the scanners to delete them all if they have them only quarantined once you know it is running properly afterwards. chindog
I use adwcleaner, but didn't download it specifically for adware, although it does keep my PC clean from that. I use windows 10, and occasionally the start button quits working. I run adwcleaner (although usually have to download the latest copy), and the start button magically works again.
