stevec
Is there a simple list or reference as to what (common) applications I have on Vista will not run under Windows 10?
RV_
Sorry Steve but Windows Vista is not a free upgrade to 10. If you are buying Windows 10 to install then you can run the upgrade advisor to have it check. You will likely need to do a clean install and back up your data and load a fresh retail copy of Windows 10 and rebuild your system. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/vista-to-windows-10/35b985de-ffd3-4bec-a337-3fb5b27051ef?auth=1 Here is the official upgrade Matrix which states that it must be a clean install using the upgrade version of 10 which is cheaper than the full version.\: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2898794/heres-how-windows-10-upgrade-paths-will-work.html RV/Derekhttp://www.rvroadie.com Email on the bottom of my website page.Retired AF 1971-1998 When you see a worthy man, endeavor to emulate him. hiljoball
Just my opinion - BUT - if your computer is so old as to be running Vista, it is not worth upgrading to Win 10. Time to retire it and buy a new WIN10 computer. You can by a Win10 laptop 14 inch screen for around $300 at Walmart, Bestbuy or Staples. eg http://www.walmart.com/ip/ASUS-Black-15.6-90NB0652-M30860-Laptop-PC-with-Intel-Core-i3-4005U-Haswell-Processor-4GB-Memory-500GB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-10/46784945 John JohnTitanium 29EX 29/34 Fifthwheel

docj
Steve again, sorry not to have been more clear. Plan is to buy a new PC that comes with Windows 10. Question is will my old MS office MS Streets etal, work or will I need to buy new? From my personal experience, I know that Office 2007 will work with Windows 10, but I can't attest to older versions. I also have one laptop that has MSStreets on it and it works, also. Question is will my old MS office MS Streets etal, work or will I need to buy new? We are running Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Access) on two Win 10 laptops without problems. RV_
Steve, I run Office 2010 and all the programs I ran on Vista and 7/8/8.1 run on 10. Office 2003 is no longer supported like XP and no further security updates to Office are issued thus keeping 2003 is a risk as is running XP as many attacks are against Office vulnerabilities. Office 2010 will be supported until 2020. At that time I will very likely go to the Office in the cloud 360 as it will be cheaper than buying Office pro for 4 computers in the future. I bought a special military only deal with 3 licenses per Office key and I bought two so my six computers now down to 4 keepers since deciding that the tablets did the job of the laptops but much better and easier. Two of us and was two desktops, two tablets and two laptops, are now down to two desktops and two tablets all Windows 10, all touch screens All In Ones. If Office 2003 Steve, I would buy a new 2016 or whatever the current bought version, or look into Office 360 personal as it may turn out to be a better deal with the free storage and other benefits offered. MS Streets I can't say, as when I used a mapping program it was before my smart phones. Now I use Drive+ on my Windows phones for nav and before I used the Default Google Navigation on our Galaxy phones a few years back. Maps online now do the same thing. I used Delorme Street Atlas but that was before the turn of the century. I had to use an external GPS receiver that attached to my laptop via serial cable instead of MS so no experience with it. Here is a check that may give you a better understanding. If the programs you have are 64 bit programs they will most likely work fine. That is not a hard and fast rule as my Office 2010 is 32 bit for all my machines because I needed that for the tablets, now down to one 32 bit tablet as my Surface Pro 3 is 64 bit. Many 32 bit work too but the issues usually come from old 16 bit and 32 bit programs, and unsupported programs that are no longer writing drivers for new Windows Service Packs and versions. You'll love Windows 10 once you learn your way around it. It is easy with a bit of learning curve up front. Any questions ask here as most of us are running 10 now. Vladimir
RV, can you shut off Windows 10 updates now?? I just came back from three months in Arizona. There is NO WAY I would get a operating system that did automatic updates. I could not even get the regular updates to download and install due to slow internet. It is fine for Washington and other states, but when you spend time in the third world of technology that is Arizona and California the auto updates are just a real pit.
