  8. The Black Hills and Badlands HOP (The Head Out Program) October 6 – 10, 2020 The Escapees RV Club is offering an amazing set of combination tours for the Black Hills and Badlands. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Custer State Park, the Presidential Summer White House to former President Calvin Coolidge and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the surrounding areas are a few of these tours! Mount Rushmore National Memorial contains granite faces carved into the Black Hills depicting U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. These stately faces are nearly 60 feet high. George Washington’s nose is 21 feet tall, and each of the eyes on Mount Rushmore is about 11 feet wide, with each mouth is about 18 feet wide. The memorial was completed in 1941 under the direction of artist Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln. Located in the middle of America’s heartland, are a wooded and mountainous region called, the Black Hills. The Lakota Sioux tribe called this mountain range Pahá Sápa, or “Hills That Are Black.” From a distance, the hills are dark in appearance with mostly ponderosa pines. On the other hand, the Badlands are a sunny, desert-like area with cliffs and gullies. The Badlands are indeed a testament to the power of the forces of wind and water! Located in the beautiful Black Hills, is Deadwood, founded in 1875, being the location of the last major gold rush in the United States. The booming town gained a reputation as a rough-and-rugged mining camp where Wild Bill Hickok was killed, and Calamity Jane earned her claim to fame. While in Deadwood, you can study the historical narratives of the Native American Lakota tribe and their hunt for the bison. Custer State Park and wildlife preserve is famous for bison, but also has mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorns, mountain goats, coyotes, elk and bighorn sheep. Custer State Park has beautiful scenic drives and is one of the nation’s largest state park. Before it’s closing in 2002, this area had the largest and deepest Black Hills gold mine in North America! Registration includes: · 4 nights- staying in a beautiful country setting with full hookups · 3 dinners · 1 all you can eat breakfast · 2 evening shows – one exclusive just for you! · Admissions into all the National Parks · Mount Rushmore National Memorial · Crazy Horse Memorial · Badlands National Park · Tour of the Black Hills · Learn about the Black Hills Gold Mining · Learn all about the bison, which are in this area · Tour the Badlands National Park · Pavilion for catered meals and entertainment · Professional motor coach transportation · Professional motor coach driver and local tour guide · Souvenir HOP name badge · Meet and greet social · Your HOP host · All gratuities And much more! 9. Balloon Fiesta HOP (Head Out Program) Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Option #1: October 2 - 7, 2020 Option #2 October 7 - 11, 2020 Option #3: Oct. 2 - 11, 2020 Balloons, balloons and more balloons! If this world premiere event is on your bucket list, join the Escapees RV Club HOP for the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Each morning, as dawn breaks over the Sandia Mountains, the skies will fill with 600 bright, beautiful hot-air balloons from all over the world. From its beginnings in 1972, the Balloon Fiesta has grown into the largest International Balloon Fiesta, with a 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park and a launch field the size of 54 football fields (78 acres). It is the most photographed hot-air balloon festival in the world, with 886,307 attendees in 2019. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the only Balloon Fiesta where the "box effect" comes into play. The "box effect" is a unique wind pattern that helps pilots navigate their balloons in a vertical, rectangular path; allowing them to return to the launch field, or even landing next to your RV. The Dawn Patrol lifts off in the dark, with specially-fitted lights, to observe weather conditions at different altitudes, such as the wind speed and its direction. Upon approval, the balloons lift off in a mass ascension. The "Zebras," dressed in black and white, are the ones who coordinate the launching of the balloons. One of the most exciting events is the Flight of the Nations Mass Ascension, where balloonists wave their national flag during the launch. Even though there are always traditionally-shaped balloons, there will be various specialty shapes, too, and some of the most popular are the cow, sun, pig, stagecoach, clock, skunk, the Ladybug and the sweetest mother, daddy and baby bumblebees. The bumblebee's hands have Velcro, so when they touch in midair, it appears they are holding hands. When visiting any of the balloon pilots, remember to ask them for one of the trading cards, which will explain all the pertinent information about their balloon. This fiesta also hosts the Gas Balloons – America’s Challenge race, with the winner being the one that has traveled the farthest. Past gas balloons have gone as far as the East Coast and across Canada. You can track their progress on the Fiesta website. At dusk, you can see the Twilight Glow on the launch field. This is when the burners are ignited, filling the balloons with a bouquet of bright colors. Then, the nights will finish with an extraordinary display of fireworks. Escapees will have Boondocking, “rally style” parking and a private tent for inclement weather, socials, games and catered meals. There will be a considerable amount of walking, so please bring comfortable walking shoes, as well as binoculars and a camera to capture those once-in-a-lifetime special moments. Early arrival - Options 1 and 3 Due to the popularity of this event, we recommend early arrival for parking at the HOP location for Options 1 and 3 only. Early arrival is September 29, 2020. 12. All Rally's are open to everyone. You do not need to be a member of Escapees to attend. You do not need an HDT. You do not even need an RV. We encourage you to attend a Rally and find out if an HDT meets your needs! An HDT is not for everyone - but before you dismiss them from consideration get the facts. There are currently three HDT Rally's. The National HDT Rally occurs in October each year in Hutchinson, KS. It is a full week of both social and educational events. There is a full seminar schedule on various topics related to HDTs and RVing, as well as organized social events. Manufacturers display RVs of interest to fulltimers, and there is an open house for participants that wish to show their rigs. This Rally has events for both the guys and the gals. Everyone may attend - you do not have to have an HDT to do so. You do not even need an RV - there are hotels in the local area. We encourage people to attend this Rally or the East Coast Rally before buying an HDT. The Rally website is HERE. The online registration site is HERE. If possible, please register and pay online. The East Coast Rally is held in Crossville, TN - usually in April of each year. The Rally is a meeting of owners and people contemplating getting an HDT. Similar to the National Rally, this Rally is a mixture of educational and social events. Historically, it focuses more on social events, but there are still plenty of educational seminars. There are presentation sessions on subjects of interest to HDT’s and RVer’s in general. There are social functions to build relationships with fellow RVer’s, and functions of interest to both men and women. As at the National Rally you may have a chance to sit in and drive an HDT. The Rally website is HERE. The West Coast Rally is currently held in Caldwell, ID - usually in June of each year. The Rally is a meeting of current owners and people interested in becoming an owner of an HDT. Similar to the National Rally, this Rally is a mixture of educational and social events. The Rally is one week long; it started as more of a social gathering but has a growing information sharing and educational piece, including interactive seminars. There are presentation sessions on subjects of interest to HDTer's and RVer’s in general. There are social functions to build relationships with fellow RVer’s, and functions of interest to both men and women. As at the National Rally you may have a chance to sit in and drive an HDT. We encourage anyone with an interest in HDT's to attend. Specific information on the West Coast Rally can be found on the rally website hdtwcr.com (click link, or copy and paste the URL).
