  1. Big, bold and breathtaking. No journey stays with you like one to Alaska! Flying into Anchorage, experience the magic that only Alaska can offer with this spectacular 9-day, 8-night outdoor adventure HOP. From the coastline to the heart of the frontier, this Alaska HOP delivers all the must-see sights by plane, boats, dog sleds, helicopter, kayaks, vans, and walking with professional local tour guides. Witness lush rainforests, towering mountains, and salmon making their way upstream in the clear river water, and with bears and moose roaming freely in their natural habitat. Alaska is a part of the world where Mother Nature has been left alone in her natural state, where wildlife remains abundant. Seeing grizzly bears in Alaska is on most people’s bucket lists, and the best way to see these magnificent animals is in person! One day, we will fly-in using a float plane to visit a location in Katmai National Park. July is the best time to see bears while the rivers are streaming with king and sockeye salmon, which are the bears' favorite fish to eat. Everyone wants to go dog sledding in Alaska! Fly to a glacier, meet a team of mushers and their friendly, hard-working furry athletes, and learn about mushing. Enjoy a sled ride across snow and an ice-covered glacier. Alaska has some of the world’s most spectacular glaciers in the world. These glaciers often drop vast chunks of ice into the sea. This process is called calving and can sound like a massive clap of thunder! Catching a glacier while it calves makes for incredible pictures! You will visit a glacier by boat and will have the opportunity to kayak a safe distance to a towering glacier for even more spectacular up-close pictures. You will have a couple of boat tours to view wildlife such as orcas, puffins, sea otters, sea lions, porpoises and America’s national bird, the bald eagle! You may even catch a glimpse of humpback whales breaching the water! Your tour guides will give you an inside perspective of every stop and tour of the surrounding scenery, point out the many natural wonders, and explain the area’s history and culture and you’ll soon learn why Alaska is one of the most fascinating places on earth. We will visit Homer, known as the Halibut fishing capital of the world, and Seward, the fishing village known as the “Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park” and several other national parks, to name a few things on this HOP agenda. Escapees will handle all the planning and transportation on the motor coaches, planes, helicopter, lodging, and fully escorted, multi-day tours. Sign up, sit back and enjoy! 7. History, Mystery and the Universe HOP Sept 18 – 22, 2023 UPDATE: We have a couple of RV sites left if you want to join us on this HOP! The area you will visit is like no other. It is often called “the Gateway to the Big Bend,” and you’ll find radiant night skies, cowboy hospitality and friendly folks. It is where the stars at night are big and bright, and the skies are not cloudy all day! This HOP will give you a great mix of the culture and land around the Davis Mountains and the Big Bend area. Fort Davis is the highest town in Texas at 4,900 feet above sea level. Located a short drive from Fort Davis is the world-renown University of Texas’ McDonald Observatory, where you will see one of the largest telescopes in the world. It is the Hobby-Eberly Telescope and here you will have four extraordinary tours: the Telescope, the Solar, The Twilight and the world-famous Star-Gazing Party! The Davis Mountains cover over 15,000 square miles and contain some of the darkest skies in the United States. In fact, this area is one of the largest Dark Sky Communities in the world and it is the first reserve to cross an international boundary, which happens to be the border Texas shares with Mexico. Visit Fort Davis, one of the best surviving examples of an 1854 to 1861 frontier military post in the Southwest, located there to protect the travelers and the mail and freight wagons on the Trans-Pecos portion of the San Antonio to El Paso Road, called the Chihuahua Trail. Also, we will learn about the Buffalo Soldiers that served at Fort Davis from 1867 to 1885 and the important role these men played in the frontier army. Outside of Ft. Davis lies the Chihuahua Desert. It is the largest desert in North America, covering 200,000 square miles, and is the most geographically diverse dry region in the world. Stopping for pictures and a guided tour of this magnificent area, you will learn about the climate, plants and animals that make this area so fascinating and how life can be sustained in this harsh dry land. Davis Mountains State Park was established with 540 acres, in 1933, and was one of the earliest projects for the Texas Civilian Conservation Corps. They built many of the facilities still used in the park today. An Indian Lodge sets on a mountain overlooking the state park with its white adobe walls and historic rustic charm. The town of Marfa is slowly becoming the Mecca of Art and tourism. In 1971, Donald Judd, an artist from New York, visited Marfa and fell in love with the small-town atmosphere. He purchased a home in Marfa, founded the Judd Foundation and the Chinati Foundation and constructed art galleries in several buildings on one city block. While in Marfa, you will tour Building 98, built in 1895 as officers’ quarters and headquarters for the Big Bend Military District during the Mexican Revolution. Building 98 is a historic building listed on the National Register of Historic Sites and is a Registered Historic Texas Landmark. While touring Building 98, you will see WWII German POW murals painted by prisoners who were among those placed at Fort Russell at the request of General George Patton. Mona Blocker Garcia will lead this tour. She is none other than the founder of the International Woman’s Foundation and cousin to Dan Blocker (Hoss Cartwright) of the TV series Bonanza. While in downtown Marfa, visit the Marfa Courthouse. The Presidio County Courthouse is one of the prettiest in Texas. Notice the woodwork throughout the courthouse. Take the circular staircase to the top floor and look out a window to see the entire town of Marfa. This courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Before viewing the Marfa Lights, visit the beautiful and historic Hotel Paisano. Built in 1930, it was one of the most elegant hotels of its time. In 1955 the Hotel Paisano was used as headquarters to film the classic movie “Giant,” starring James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson. Other movies filmed in the Marfa area are The Gambler, Lonesome Dove, The Good Old Boys, Streets of Laredo, Dead Man’s Walk, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men and Dancer. Texas Population 81 was filmed in nearby Ft. Davis, and many locals were used as extras. On the way to view the Marfa Lights, stop and see the "Pillars," an enigmatic arrangement of twelve ten-foot steel pillars, each weighing over three hundred pounds, inscribed with Jason Tucker's mysterious symbols. Each image looks like a space alien. During the day, the images look like faint lines or drawings on the pillars, but at night, each image lights up, bringing the space alien to life floating above the ground. Jason Tucker grew up in San Angelo, Texas, a town northeast of Marfa. Complete this HOP with the Marfa Lights. Native American residents knew about the Marfa Mystery Lights long before the first recorded sighting in 1883. These mysterious dancing lights are not always there, but starting at dusk and deep into the night is the best time to see them. The orb lights can be white, red, blue, orange, or green. They appear randomly and move throughout the sky above the tree line. They will move toward you, away from you, or maybe to the right and left of you. The terrain under the lights is rough and rugged; no streets or houses are in the area. The Big Bend area is trendy in September and October, so please register for the HOP as soon as possible. Bring your camera, binoculars, telescope and comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for West Texas hospitality! Payments · When registering for this HOP, you may pay half upon registration. · Final payment due - July 18, 2023 Prices for this HOP Two-person rig: 1,375.00 Each additional person: 695.00 One-person rig: 875.00 Please register on-line for this HOP. 16. Escapees RV Parks: Welcome Home! For years, Escapees members have asked about adding more SKP Co-Ops and traditional RV parks to our park options. And for years, we've listened to your requests while researching ways to make that happen. Escapees RV Parks and SKP Co-Ops are special. Member-owned and operated SKP Co-Op parks work hard to create a welcoming environment for both lot-owning members and those just passing through, where they can enjoy time together while resting from travels. Rainbow Parks (now referred to as Escapees RV Parks) offer comfort and comradery at an affordable price, thanks to generations of Escapees who came before and volunteered their time to build these parks for fellow members. Building more parks like these has been cost and time prohibitive to meet the growing demand. This is why we are SO excited to share with you a solution that creates opportunities for more parks that encompass both the values and quality of Escapees RV Club while offering comfortable accommodations for RV enthusiasts. How do we plan to do this? By working with new and established RV parks through our new franchise program! Escapees RV Parks will expand the parking options for members faster than we could on our own. All future parks will embody all you expect from our own Escapees RV Parks and continue the sense of community that all our parks hold. And now, when you or other members come to us wanting to run your own Escapees RV Park, we have a way to do it! What could be better than a fellow member welcoming you into their own Escapees RV Park? After 30 years of successfully running our own RV park system, we look forward to sharing our processes and values with more RV parks. The expansion of Escapees RV Parks will continue to promote the Escapees’ culture and community while providing more parking options for members. We can’t wait to welcome you home. To learn more about establishing Escapees RV Parks, Inc, please read our latest blog post The Creation of Escapees RV Parks: A New Phase of Our Park System - https://www.escapees.com/escapees-rv-parks-new-phase/ To learn more about becoming a franchisee, go to franchise.escapeesrvparks.com. (This is not an offering. An offering can be made by prospectus/Franchise Disclosure Document only. Franchises are not being offered to residents of, or for locations in, states where we do not have an effective franchise registration on file. 24. The Black Hills and Badlands HOP (The Head Out Program) October 6 – 10, 2020 The Escapees RV Club is offering an amazing set of combination tours for the Black Hills and Badlands. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Custer State Park, the Presidential Summer White House to former President Calvin Coolidge and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the surrounding areas are a few of these tours! Mount Rushmore National Memorial contains granite faces carved into the Black Hills depicting U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. These stately faces are nearly 60 feet high. George Washington’s nose is 21 feet tall, and each of the eyes on Mount Rushmore is about 11 feet wide, with each mouth is about 18 feet wide. The memorial was completed in 1941 under the direction of artist Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln. Located in the middle of America’s heartland, are a wooded and mountainous region called, the Black Hills. The Lakota Sioux tribe called this mountain range Pahá Sápa, or “Hills That Are Black.” From a distance, the hills are dark in appearance with mostly ponderosa pines. On the other hand, the Badlands are a sunny, desert-like area with cliffs and gullies. The Badlands are indeed a testament to the power of the forces of wind and water! Located in the beautiful Black Hills, is Deadwood, founded in 1875, being the location of the last major gold rush in the United States. The booming town gained a reputation as a rough-and-rugged mining camp where Wild Bill Hickok was killed, and Calamity Jane earned her claim to fame. While in Deadwood, you can study the historical narratives of the Native American Lakota tribe and their hunt for the bison. Custer State Park and wildlife preserve is famous for bison, but also has mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorns, mountain goats, coyotes, elk and bighorn sheep. Custer State Park has beautiful scenic drives and is one of the nation’s largest state park. Before it’s closing in 2002, this area had the largest and deepest Black Hills gold mine in North America! Registration includes: · 4 nights- staying in a beautiful country setting with full hookups · 3 dinners · 1 all you can eat breakfast · 2 evening shows – one exclusive just for you! · Admissions into all the National Parks · Mount Rushmore National Memorial · Crazy Horse Memorial · Badlands National Park · Tour of the Black Hills · Learn about the Black Hills Gold Mining · Learn all about the bison, which are in this area · Tour the Badlands National Park · Pavilion for catered meals and entertainment · Professional motor coach transportation · Professional motor coach driver and local tour guide · Souvenir HOP name badge · Meet and greet social · Your HOP host · All gratuities And much more!
