  1. Our rig broke in Arizona and we have to get another one, the insurance company is involved. We are buying from a private party not a dealer, how do we get the paperwork?
  2. This is my first post on my first day as a member. I read the rules. This *isn't* a political post. Admins, please don't interpret it as such. I'm not here to advocate voting for one side or the other. I don't care who you vote for or if you vote at all. That's a personal decision outside the scope of this post and this forum. I am genuinely concerned that SD is not going to be a state open to domiciling in for much longer. I am currently a resident in South Dakota. We are living in a sticks n bricks. In May, our son graduates and our house will go on the market. Once our house sells, we will be FT RVers. We have established an address with a PMB, ironically, before we decided to be full timers because the mail in our neighborhood was always getting misplaced. The full senate agreed and passed SB54, a bill that would tighten residency restrictions for hunting and fishing licenses in the state. The bill passed with 33 in favor and with one excused lawmaker. The bill will go to the appropriate House committee with a do pass from the senate. The bill states that any individual who lives in another state for at least 180 days during a calendar year would lose their ability to qualify as a SD resident. The bill also further defines a domicile as a physical resident. And, a driver's license or ownership of a business would not be main sources of qualifying an individual as a state resident. (info copy/paste from an article in keloland.com). YIKES. Thats just for hunting and fishing rights. SB17 pertains to voting rights. This bill says that a resident must be within the state for at least 30 days in the 365 days immediately prior to submitting the registration form for voting. Also hat tip to keloland.com for the info. Here's what I'd like input on....Is South Dakota making it more difficult for us to claim domicile in SD? What's next? Saying that we can't re register our vehicles or renew our driver's licenses? That, in effect, would eliminate any full timer RVers from claiming SD as a domicile state. I already wrote an email to my representative. No response yet. In his defense, I just sent the email yesterday. Looking forward to your input. Thanks!
  3. Hello, Escapees! My wife and I are looking to retire in the next handful of months and join you all on a nomadic journey. We would like to domicile with Escapees around Bushnell, FL are we are looking for references to businesses that are accommodating to the Escapee lifestyle. We would appreciate any leads to businesses that are aware of – and sympathetic to – the needs of the nomadic community. Examples include: · Primary care physicians · Dentists · Pharmacies · Auto insurers · Health insurers/brokers · DMV locations · Banks · Estate planners And so on. What am I forgetting? Is there a better place for this kind of information? See you on the road! K&M
  4. I've lived in Nevada for 22 years in a home. I'm going to sell the house in a few years and go live in my van for awhile. Since I'm already domiciled in Nevada and there's tons of BLM land I thought why leave. I'm not interested in going camping in another state. I'm on Medicaid now and it's no good out of state. With Medicaid you have to let it go before you can apply for Medicaid again in another state and then it takes about 3 months to be approved. I'm just hoping Escapees can provide address for my drivers license in Nevada. If they can in a few years I will use all of the Escapees services. Thanks!
  5. need a bit of group advice, a little background to help clarify Hubs is ready for retirement date set at 8/31/2021, I will continue to work full time, my job is fully remote and will continue to be. We have been until recently been/are residents of California for our entire life. Hub is a union guy and has a pension that we believe will qualify for the exemption of California income taxes. My employer is multi-state and I can easily establish my residency in Florida for income tax purposes Mid-May we established domicile in Florida, turned in our CA CDL's, established a physical address/mailing address in Bushnell w/ Escapees, contracted w/ a family lawyer attorney in Florida to set up our estate plan, bought our Ford F450 in Florida,, found our rig (Alliance 40v13) in Texas and have secured all the proper financing for that purchase and pick it up in 2 weeks. Now we really really need to chat w/ a CPA/Tax professional who has experience helping us unravel ourselves the best way possible from California. Looking for your recommendations, Thank you! The Becks (Heather and Tim)
  6. Hi all, I plan to be a full time workamper when I retire. In the meantime I find myself with 4 months of full time rv "practice". I have left my previous residence and am awaiting my apt. that will be ready in Aug. I will be in Nomad mode until then. That being said, I need a domicile for ODL and vehicle registration through the DMV. I'd rather not use a standard Texas or Florida domicile. I would rather keep my address in Oregon since I will be here for the full 4 months. I understand the income tax vs other states. I just want to keep it as simple as possible. How would I go about finding a permanent domicile address that qualifies for the DMV? Any info would be greatly appreciated! I've already sent an E-mail to "Escapees" and they referred me to y'all. Thanks!
  7. Question about TX registration for our RV (camper truck) Here’s our situation: I currently work in UT, my husband is self-employeed and can work anywhere. We plan to be full-time RVers by Aug/Sept 2021. We are in the process of buying our camper truck in NC. The truck will be in UT March-May, then my husband and daughter will start our road trip....I will join in Aug/Sept when I leave my job. We have family in TX and plan to make our domicile there while we travel full time. Is there any way we can avoid registering the vehicle in UT since it will only be in the state for 2-3 months? We have to claim Utah domicile because I work here. We have to park the truck on the street in UT, so I’m hesitant to go the Montana LLC route. If we put my Texan brother-in-law on the title with my husband, could we register in TX instead of Utah? Once I leave my UT job, I could then declare my domicile as TX and we could remove him and add me to the title/registration. Would this work?
  8. I am retiring soon and will be able to keep my health insurance through my company (it’s a nationwide plan). I currently live in Pennsylvania. I plan on purchasing a rv and going full-time in the spring. I’m thinking about setting up my domicile in South Dakota. Does anyone know if this will create an issue with my health insurance? Or does anyone know where I can further research this? My insurance company rep hasn’t been helpful since they aren’t familiar with this situation. Thank you for your help.
  9. Hello all. We are fairly new to Escapees and we just bought a new Coachmen Beyond. We pick it up on Monday. We are Texas residents but renting in AZ at current time to be close to our college daughters. We domicile with the Livingston address in Texas. The taxes in AZ are higher than TX. Can I buy my RV in AZ and use their temp tag while I try to register the RV in Texas? Do I have to drive to El Paso to do the inspection on the RV? Will just having the Livingston, TX, address suffice for registering the RV? So many questions and I am sure they've all been asked before. Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi, I have just started full-timing. I homeschool my kids, but I have heard about changing your residency to a more lax state, like Texas for example. Can you explain how to do that? TIA
  11. Greetings! My wife and I are planning on becoming fulltimers within the next two months. We currently live in Fitchburg, WI, near Madison, WI. Although the Escapees mail and domicile services appear to be affordable and worthwhile, it would be disastrous for my health insurance and healthcare for me to take a domicile outside the State of Wisconsin. My Medicare Supplemental plans are based on Wisconsin Residency, and I don't want to disturb them. Does anyone know of a service that will grant me a Wisconsin domicile address?
  12. We have a month before we move into the fifth wheel. I have been researching and have most of my questions answered. PLUS I found a good post that compares the choices we are facing. I am still undecided, and I'm asking anyone who has arrived at their domicile decision, what are one or two smaller discoveries do you wish you had known beforehand? My decisions are between Florida, Texas, and Tennessee. SD is a distant fourth. I read Health care cost completely overshadows all other costs. I think I agree, that is for 2 years at least. I know the big points, income taxes, health insurance, RV insurance, new vehicle purchase taxes, sales tax rate. (the sales tax rate in TN is high but we have no plans to be there for long stays) I would want to bring an already converted HDT "house car" into the state. Would it be very tough to do or easy if already converted? We have relatives in TN and FL but no plans to stay with them. Thank you. 13. I am new to this website. Will be full time RVing come October. Anyone have the South Dakota domicile address with the Texas mail forwarding? I picked South Dakota because I heard the insurance is cheaper there.
  14. I plan to move to Florida Sept. 15th and initiate domicile. In Sumpter County the DMV drivers license and vehicle registration services are only available for current residents by appointment. Is it possible to register vehicle and get drivers licenses in other counties if using a Escapee’s domicile address in Sumpter county? Are there any other work around to get things done during Covid?
  15. We just set up our Florida domicile yesterday, following the directions provided by escapees. it was very easy! The folks at the dmv/tax collector office were very nice and knew exactly what to do. ( we were prepared with passports, ss cards, escapee letter, etc...) Drivers licenses took about 20 minutes. We almost forgot to file our “declaration of domicile “ with the county clerk. We had one of the local clerks notarize the form, then paid $10 to file it. Everyone was very nice. notes, the guide seems a bit out of date, but we got it done, ( certification form is no longer needed and voter registration is now done when you get your license) no electronics are allowed in the court records office, so leave your phones, iPads, etc in the car. after, we drove to Sumter oaks rv park. It was ... just ok. The office staff was nice but referred us to Livingston Texas for all escapees questions. feel free to ask me any questions!
  16. I am going to become a full-time RV'er, but have a question about getting my driving license. I am going to use the Escapees mail forwarding service for domicile purposes. However, on the Texas driving license application, it asks what kind of property my domicile is. The options don't include "mail forwarding service," and force me to check either single-family dwelling, apartment, motel, or temporary shelter. Seeing as it is none of those and I don't want to purjer myself, what do I check?
